Introduction

Kinescope is a "broadband narrowcasting" software distribution system for very high quality video. Kinescope delivers DVD and HD quality video to subscribers. Content is organized into public or private channels. Each channel has an ongoing schedule that determines when content is distributed to subscribers.

Kinescope is not a streaming product. Kinescope monitors each channel's schedule and automatically initiates downloads early enough to ensure the content is waiting in the subscriber's library by the scheduled day and time. If the content owner allows, video can automatically burn to DVD or SVCD to watch on a DVD player.

Kinescope supports public and private channels

Public channels appear in Kinescope's "Browse Channel" feature, and are available to any subscriber. A subscriber can find a public channel by keyword or by browsing. Public channels can operate profitably on a much smaller scale than broadcast or cable, with as little as a few hundred subscribers.

Private channels require approval of the channel owner prior to subscription. The content of a private channel is only available to pre-approved subscribers. Private channels are appropriate for distribution of sensitive content to a limited audience. Private channels are a cost-effective means of distributing very high quality content to an authorized group. Private channels can operate successfully with a handful of subscribers.

Kinescope handles the logistics of scheduling, subscriptions, billing (for pay channels) and distributing content for each channel.
