Consumers As a viewer, you download and install a program called Kinescope client. We call this program a client because it automatically communicates with a set of MassLight servers that manage channels, schedules, and episodes. When you first open the Kinescope client, you can browse the Channel tab for an interesting channel. Or, if you already know the keyword for a channel, you can type this into the keyword search field to access the channel directly. From the Channel tab you can subscribe to a channel. Each channel provides several shows. Shows contain individual episodes. It's similar to regular TV. For example, your local Fox affiliate is a channel. The Simpsons is a show that is available on Fox. The time Bart adopted an elephant is an episode. Each channel has a schedule. With regular TV, you might browse a channel's schedule in a TV guide. With Kinescope, the schedule is available in the Schedule tab. Every channel has a schedule that determines when a particular episode will be available. Unlike TV, with Kinescope, once an episode has become available to you, it stays in your personal library as long as you like. You can watch it at any time. In this way, Kinescope is similar to a VCR or TiVo. Your Kinescope client is responsible for monitoring your schedule and automatically downloading every episode as the episode becomes available. Then, when you sit down at your computer, you can go the Library tab, and have immediate access to your shows. Once subscribed, Kinescope will continually update the schedules, and download the content according the channel's schedule. This scheduling mechanism is the heart of Kinescope. The quality of the content available through Kinescope is truly superior, and as a result, the file size of each episode is very large. Kinescope is designed to download these files even while you sleep, so you don't ever have to wait for content. You should leave your computer on and have Kinescope running so it can download your content as soon as it's available. If you don't allow Kinescope to run while you sleep, you are missing one of the best features! There are other features you will learn about as you explore Kinescope. For instance, some channels offer the ability to automatically burn content to discs, so you can watch episodes in a DVD player. We are continually adding new features, and welcome your suggestions. At its core, Kinescope is a really simple, affordable way to see exactly you want, when you want. |
